Let Them Eat Oysters

Typos are rarely funny (especially my own), but this doozie prompted quite the guffaw when I happened on it reading Google News. Is this schadenfreude? Does Google’s headline error make me feel a little better about my embarrassed state when I find some ridiculously stupid error on the pages I have wrought? Well, maybe.

As someone who has to write a lot — and not just on this blog — I live in fear and dread of the insidious, sneaky typo. Try as I might, I know that I screw up more than I should. And I am so grateful to all of you for your patience with my idiosyncratic and diverse array of misspellings, typos, and convoluted grammatical constructions.

I admit that I am in awe of Google. Their accuracy and consistency — not to mention their amazing array of on-line products — impresses. All those folks at Google, well they certainly live and work in the creative sector. They are always introducing new tools and services. Their generativity (in a very creative industry) surpasses almost every other category player. They are very much about the idea, but they are also exquisite in execution.

Maybe that’s why I can laugh at this silly little flaw. Any Google mistake stands out as an anomaly with respect to their brand.
