Americans for the Arts: Milwaukee

I am attending the annual Americans for the Arts conference here in Milwaukee this week, so entries will be briefer and breezier for awhile.

The diversity of people and interests at this conference never fails to impress me. This organization truly is the "big tent" for the arts in America. The conversations are fascinating. There's a lot going on.

When I commented on the incredible diversity of programs, threads, interests, and focuses this year, Bob Lynch wryly jested that they used to call this conference "de Tocqueville's Nightmare." One of the things I love about Bob - he's so down to Earth, but he's an erudite guy. No question about it. I ask you, "Are the people at widget conventions making jokes about de Tocqueville?" I doubt it.

There was a very interesting new brand & awareness campaign presented yesterday afternoon that was created for Arts Wisconsin. The campaign does a good job of bridging the arts and business gap and doing so in an entertaining and attention-getting way. It's so great to see such sophistication and professionalism in the arts being employed. Wisconsin is a leader in so many things, and they continue that tradition in advocacy and in building support.

If you haven't been to an Americans for the Arts conference before, please consider coming. It's a terrific time with good people.

More later.
