Global Perspectives: Jack Yan's The Persuader

A couple of weeks ago I came across Jack Yan's blog: The Persuader. I've been reading him on a regular basis ever since.

Jack Yan and I share a lot in common. We are both, for lack of a better term, brand analysts. We look at people, products, and services through a brand strategy lens - sometimes as students, sometimes as critics, and sometimes as strategy-translators. I, however, am in Washington, DC and Jack is in New Zealand.

The Persuader is terrific for several reasons. The first is Jack's quality of thinking. He's facile, informed, and able to connect diverse & divergent dots that bridge a host of fields: from the financial to the marketplace to the ethical to the anthropological, etc. Second, Jack offers a different perspective. He is clearly global in his thinking, but he also conveys a Kiwi's perspective.

In some ways he lives in a different world from mine. I appreciate that. But his world is similar enough, and his marketer's instincts are so well-honed, that I rarely fail to learn or be enriched in my perspectives.

This particular entry discusses Microsoft's planned introduction of it's Zune mp3 player. You'll see what I mean when you read this.

Give him a read. You'll be glad you did.

Neill, I am so very honoured. Thank you for your kind words. Please know I feel very similarly about your work—I was thrilled to have discovered your blog and become a regular reader. There aren’t many of us who operate in this business and can analyse it properly.
