Web Ticket Sales - Upsides and Downsides
Rarely does a day go by that someone doesn't talk to me about the tremendous growth of the online ticketing sales channel. Many organizations are selling close to 75% of their tickets via web commerce.
While this shift in consumer purchase channels has brought many benefits, it has also created some unintended consequences. Ticketing staff, who used to be a prime information and upselling channel, just don't have access to the same number of audience members that they used to. As a result, the opportunity to offer other program suggestions to inbound callers has all but disappeared.
What strategies do you have in place to leverage e-commerce? How are you dealing with some of the challenges that have come along with the benefits? Don't be afraid to vote and comment. Let me and your colleagues know where you stand, what you are learning, and how you are coping.

I'm disappointed no one has responded this this yet. I'm certainly interested to see what others say - I feel like I've been so busy trying to get web sales I hadn't thought of the downside.
